Yo remember when percentages worked?, Yeah man, the good times. . .

Pvp protection/penalty percentages are absolutely useless/broken right now. Like, seriously.

Either put them back to how they were for the past year (which worked almost perfectly fine minus a few kinks but those can be fixed/are technically fixed anyway)

OR

I still don't see why percents were changed in the first place.

If it was to prevent spam-killing without penalizing killing, then what should have been done is only gain pvp penalty if the killed has a percent. To prevent a person from dying more than, say, three times until he is 'safe' from dropping things, make it so when killed, upon graving, the killed gets 50% protection, and make the maximum pvp percentage +/- 150% (because PKers could just wait like a minute for that 100% to be a 99% :p )

Killer kills Killee.
Killee gets 50% protection upon graving, Killer gets nothing.
Killer kills Killee again.
Upon Killee graving, the Killer gets 50% penalty (0+50), and the Killee's protection is increased to 100%, preventing loss of items from the third kill.
Killer kills Killee a third time.
Upon Killee graving, the Killer now has a capped-out 150% penalty (50+100), and the Killee has a capped-out 150% protection.


The old pvp percentage system was personally superior than what the current one is, namely, that it actually worked.


I'd rather not wait until some ****storm about spamkilling happens AND THEN we consider this; I'd rather we fix the problem now before anything happens. So yeah, discuss percentages go.

It's a pvp game. A system that punishes you for any pvping is retarded.

Especially where the FFO community is involved and likes abusing this. I think killing in towns to prevent spam killing is the only thing that should give a percent.

The last percentage system wasn't about preventing spam killing. It was about ****ing anyone over who killed anyone or anything. You SHOULD drop your **** when you die. You SHOULD NOT spawn camp people for repeated kills.

The whole idea of punishing you for killing in general is retarded. If you get punished for killing the same person over and over who is unhostile, then it makes sense.

The only people who ever really complained about the percentage system were people who were trying to get around it. It worked for what it was intended to do, which was to mechanically prevent spamkilling and additional grief through spam-ganking someone for loot or for some otherwise griefy reason.

Also, with my proposed idea, it doesn't punish pvp. It punishes repeatedly killing the same people over and over. If you'll notice, my idea gives no penalty for the first death, which means normal standard pvp wouldn't be affected at all.

also you guys spam killing black till he was +1k and then gale ppwiping the percents off.. is retarded...

also jr making his alt already be +400% as a healer to heal you and give us negatives hwen he dies... retarded again

Percentages were a mangled, horrible system that noone liked at all. It rewarded people for losing, encouraged people not to pvp, and in some cases ruined people's characters with impossibly huge % ratings.

Besides why are we talking about pvp there's like six people on right now.

Which is why I suggested an alternate option for the allowance system that makes all of those worries nonexistent. It still allows PvP and doesn't penalize it unless it turns into a more aggresive singling out of players to kill them, prevents huge percentages with a cap, and only punishes people who go out of their way to kill someone more than once within a short amount of time (which pvp isn't).

That doesn't adress getting percentages for killing non hostile healers/lifers and allowing your friends to kill you for you to start with a percentage to cause other people to get negatives.

Nice try. Killing people in town is all that should give percents.

I did. So gale let them give us a percent anyway. Then when Black went to gsh to talk on a level 10 and got spam killed by your friends on purpose.. gale ppwiped their negatives and blamed that on black.. 1sided admins =/= solution

Anything regarding past events don't pertain to trying to fix present issues (and it's not that I'm trying to hide anything, I just sincerely don't care about whatever you're talking about that's trying to pin something on Gale (as usual)).

My point is, if my idea for percentages were to be put in, straight-up giving all information pertaining to abuse of the percentage system would be sent to one of the admins for them to deal with.

But really, percentages actually working was better than having completely broken percentages now. And to those who have issues with the previous percentage system, my suggested fix for them has shown to counteract every point that was made about any flaws in the previous system that couldn't be handled through solid moderation.

Unless someone has a better idea for the percentage system. Then of course we're all ears.

You sure like a lot of words.

Let's break this **** down. The previous percentage system was an utter failure and only caused more problems. I know first hand.

Reasons:
1.) Admins can/do wipe bad percentages from their friends
2.) The percentage system doesn't take into account all of the different ways people can be hostile or help someone hostile to you, and you still get percents for killing them
3.) The entire idea of making people drop engraved gear is silly, especially with these increased prices
4.) This system encourages losing and dying on purpose just to spite people
5.) This system is so broken and full of glitches/flaws that fixing it would require Gaku to expend more effort that is apparently available to update FFO
6.) Any half-assed version of this system being reimplemented would be a travesty for all of the aforementioned reasons.

1.) By that same token, players can do whatever they want to wipe percentages. Either way, stop hatin' on the man or whatever you call it. I mean you can hate Gale all you want but don't forget that there are two other admins who will gladly moderate if given the heads-up.
2.) If person A targets person B first, person A is hostile to person B. There's no semi-hostile or 'yeah I'm kinda hostile but only in certain ways' in the game. You're also welcome to suggest how to fix part of the percentage system rather than just list what you don't like about it while doing nothing to try and solve the issue.
3.) Dropping engraved gear serves as a punishment for people who spam kill. Seems perfectly fine seeing as how you can unengrave people's gear.
4.) Doesn't encourage losing nor dying on purpose. It doesn't even grant protection until AFTER the death so I don't see why you're complaining about that. If you really want to give a negative side to the protected people, you could always put a permanent death sickness on someone as long as they have some amount of positive percentage or something. Like I also said, if you see someone intentionally using the percentage system in an abusive manner, feel free to tip an admin off. We've got three of them.
5.) It's actually not, contrary to what you think. There are a few flaws with the percentage system that we used to use, and Gaku technically made a fix for them when he went to this new one (despite another fix making percentages almost completely nonexistant). Even then, all the other major flaws that were pointed out were shot down by my percentage idea, which leads me to:
6.) It's not half-assed. It's simple yet wonderfully effective, and any minor flaw that you try to find can probably be moderated manually.

Good god I leave for one night and this still goes on; seeing as noone read what I said earlier I'll repeat myself. Noone's playing. PvP is the lowest of priorities right now, who is there to spam kill? Noone. Because noone's playing. And none of you even leave your towns anymore, because noone's playing. And the only PvP that's even happened right now is people outright AGREEING to PvP because it's not like anyone's actually treading on anyone's toes because. Noone's playing.

You can debate whether the percentage system is good, bad, fried chicken, whatever. But that's still not going to be relevant because we've had maybe 10 people at most for a while now ( Actually that's kind of generous recently ) and most of the time, noone's actually doing anything except maybe chat and kill mobs for five minutes here and there, I cannot even remember the last time I ACTUALLY PVPED, I've fought Sai, naturally I live with him and all, but that doesn't count because it's sort of PvP cannibalism.

I guess what I'm trying to say is; You're shutting the stable doors long after the horses bolted. Why are you even arguing about this.

Before you get to eager to dissect what I said and **** talk me, I was using it as a figure of speech to basically say the people arguing didn't actually pay attention. Honestly, people wouldn't act like this in real life.
