A light wind arose, overtaking the peak of Mt. Poison. Harshly, the wind flailed down to the west, brushing away the beings that gave the mountain its name. The sun unhurriedly rises bringing forth a new day for the island of New Banian. In the shadows, lies an eerie figure, as the sunrise progressed, travellers could hear a bloodcurdling chuckle gradually vanishing with the night.

Gently, the wind past a hidden village, known as Gradić, located in a mountain path sealed off by the forest leading adventurers to the town of Aldeae. Gradić was a fairly small village; the populace has yet to meet a hundred citizens for awhile. Due to the familiarity of the small populace, there is a great amount of respect towards one another, most respect the elders. The way the village works is that the eldest person or one with the most wisdom would become the chief. Each person obliges to the rules and practices of the village, the village chief is a master of the arts which earns its respect.

The village made up of a tribe of wee folk; moreover, they incredibly small and are often taken away by birth by fiends that dwell in the forest. Although, the village specializes in swordsmanship and magic, to learn these abilities approach with the tribes’ coming of age ceremony. Wee folk are sometimes known as mischievous things which enjoy playing tricks yet can often be a sign of good luck. The children of wee folk are very mischievous; they are quite difficult to handle at young ages due to stubbornness and being spoiled. Their personalities resulted in them being taken away easily, shattering the hearts of the villagers. The next generation of the tribe has declined to only five children, none of which are old enough to compromise with the ideology of the tribe.

Throughout the land, anarchy was spread, surprisingly enough the land of New Banian was doing swell in no crime rates and new kingdoms were formed.

Festivities were being prepared in the village of Gradić; many villagers had gathered around the chief’s house waited for hour in hopes for joy. There was a silence throughout the area as if everything had been anticipation for this fateful moment. Suddenly, a little girl ran out of the house, eyes gleaming with excitement. One by one the villagers’ faces brightened up, shortly following the girl; abruptly, a loud cry had broken the silence.

Carefully examining the fragile creature, the mid wife smiled at the couple.
“It’s a boy!” declared the midwife. The mother cried from joy from holding her newborn.

After a few minutes, the midwife appeared out of the house with a couple and the current chief. The crowd became rowdy after viewing the newest member of their village. Cantankerous from a lack of sleep, the chief stabbed her staff in to the dirt demanding silence.

While taking out a book, the Chief alleged, “In our scriptures, our ancestors had almost five times of our current population decades ago. There are many heroes listed throughout the history of the village, all had died during a revolt to end the sinister Lord Garland’s reign of the land.”

The crowd cheered loudly, dedicating their current lifestyle to those who had sacrificed themselves for their freedom.

Continuing, the Chief replied to the cheers, “If we can conceive healthy children like my second grandson and teach our future generations from our previous mistakes, I believe that we can restore our tribe to its former glory! To do this, we must protect and carefully look after this child and our current children from the fiends beyond these stone walls. With this being said, let us begin our festival!”

As they villagers were ready to begin their festival a young child’s scream could be heard off in the distance. “Help, a fiend has entered the village” screamed the voice. Villagers panicked as they could see smoke fill the air.

A village child was jealous of the yet to be born infant’s attention and decided to play a prank as an attempt for more attention. Gavin often played tricks on the village; he had an obsessive need to be the center of attention. His parents had been exiled as traitors to the village as someone had predicted long ago. Many of the citizens of Gradić believe the order of nature is at the mercy of fortune played by the cards of fate and destiny. It was foreseen that the couple would be traitorous making contracts with evil to get everything they have ever wanted. As proved to be true, it was Gavin’s parents which informed the fiends of every newborn in exchange for money and power. The boy had befriended many of the imps when he was younger but with his parents gone, Gavin rarely saw the Imps. Their exile had provoked Gavin’s need for attention; any type was fine he thought.

Often he could he the voices of whispers around him “How pitiful” they whispered, “How sad. . .” as their icy glares pierced fear into his chest “Come this way, stay away from that brat!” was often heard in deep voices, “That child has no future.” Every day these whispers surrounded his mind, feeling like shit he thought to succumb to insanity any second. Gavin was only friends with the Chief’s grandchildren, for no other villager wanted their child to befriend a traitor’s child.

As he grew older he became a mechiavellist and capricious boy, he did not resort to petty tricks for attention. At such a young age the duplicity of this boy was far too great, Gavin was too cunning to get caught by his actions and rarely faced any consequences. He feigned ignorance to his surrounding, yet everyone thought of him to be very intelligent in his studies. Nobody would suspect such an ignorant and fragile child he thought.

Gavin entered the forest to the forbidden area to seek an imp to help with his plan. Searching for hours he had no success, as the sun arose, he could see a blurry figure out in the distance. Quickly, he approached it; he froze in his steps as the figure had begun to dash towards him. Ready to attack the small boy, the Imp stopped and gazed at Gavin’s family crest.

“State your name feeble child” Gavin paused at the Imp’s question, in a confident tone that he would not be harmed, he introduced himself, “Gavin Hawk” “What is it that you have come here for boy?” the Imp asked in a stern voice. “I require your assistance” he noted. “Oh?” the imp asked with smirk thinking back to Gavin’s parents “Very well, what assistance might you require?” the Imp asked. “My village is in a state of festivities, there will be a newborn shortly, I want you to get rid of that child and help me fake a kidnapping” The look on the Imps face made Gavin sure that he would comply with his request.

Heading back with what the villagers called fiends following in his parents’ footsteps; Gavin looked at the imp and ordered, “For now we shall only proceed with my kidnap as you will gather too much attention to steal the newborn”. Arriving to the village, Gavin set arson with the Imp. “Help, a fiend has entered the village” he screamed, it slightly shocked the Imp but he did not leave his post. Following through with the plan, an angry stampede of villagers approached; close enough for them to witness the Imp.

Around the chief’s house the villagers ran around panicking “The fiend has set fire to our village!” they cried. “Quickly gather your children and prepare to approach the fiend!” said the Elder in a calm voice. Hastily, they approached the area of the child’s pleas for help. A hazy outline grabbing a child was in front of a burning house that belonged to an orphan. “Let me go!” screamed the boy, the outline slowly approached the crowd dragging the boy. “I’ll be back for the rest of your children” alleged the figure, now visible, the dreadful creature struck fear into the villagers. One by one they began to shiver, a few had run off “The terror! The terror!” they shrieked.

With fear visible in all of their eyes, the Imp took its chance to run off with the boy. The small girl from before pushing through the crowd called out to the boy, “Gavin!”

Voluntarily running off with the Imp, Gavin heard somebody calling out to him. Shocked he saw one of his only friends in tears as he was whisked away. “Kimmeh!” He replied with fake tears. As they entered the forest, the Imp panicked as he noticed Kimberly’s father was chasing them up the mountain path. “Lose him quickly” Gavin said irritated, 15 minutes had passed before David had lost sight of them. “Perfect, now we will discuss getting rid of that nuisance in town” Gavin declared. Just when they were about to continue they heard rustling leaves nearby.

They saw the figure of a small boy carrying herbs making his way down the mountain path. “Oh lunch!” The Imp dashes towards the boy with hungry in mind. “Stop, that is my friend, touch him and you will regret it” annoyed the Imp remarked “Oh the audacity you have to tell me what to do, but very well I will not harm him.”

“Great, we’ll leave our discussion until later, for the time being we shall part. Do not get caught” Gavin explained to the imp as he approached the boy. The Imp nodded and left covering his tracks.

A curious young lad by the name of Kyle wandered along the mountain path in hopes of finding a gift for his mother, Kayla, and new sibling. Kyle had found a handful of herbs which his mother often said were good for building up a big and strong body. He believed this to be true as his father, David, was about 1.5 times taller than all of the villagers. What he didn’t know was that his father was not of the same kind of the tribe, and he had inherited his father’s height.

After gathering the herbs, Kyle hurriedly made his way down back to town but was intercepted by his friend, Gavin. “What’s the hurry Kyle?” asked Gavin as he gave a confused look. Kyle presented his findings, “My sibling must be born by now!” “I can assure you that your sibling has yet to be born my friend” “Gavin you’re so weird, where do you learn how to talk, assure? Are you becoming an old fart already?” Laughing at his friend’s insolence, Gavin responded “Oh haha, what are you talking about? I would never, hehe. . “Gavin put on a childish act, the one that Kyle had always known, one that only villagers had known. “Anyways! I was looking for you; they said the baby won’t be born for awhile so let’s explore the path more!” “Sounds fun! I can give these to mommy later, I found something cool earlier, and I’ll show it to you only!” He exclaimed.

(Post rest next week ~~!)
