Rules have been "updated" for various reasons. Updated rules consist of a mix of the previous rule set, the older set of rules and one new rule. May be updated or clarified in the future.
1. Offensive or blatantly non-RP names are not allowed. Many are blocked, but there's endless variations that can be made, and if you want to play FFO, you won't use any of them.
-- For more information, refer to this thread.
(Clue: Would you ever see someone named that?)

2. Due to the younger audience that FFO attracts, harassment is not tolerated*. This includes racist/sexist remarks, bypassing the filter on say, newbie say, and any other public channel, and following players around just trying to sleep/hold/whatever them and impede their gaming for no real reason other than to be an ass. In character attacks, calling someone a creep is fine; saying "gohu you're a fat**** and I hope you die", is not. If you don't know where the line is, you should err on the side of caution.

3. Spamming is not allowed. There is an auto-mute setup for this, but it's still possible to do it in different ways (in other words, not getting auto-muted does not make it okay). I won't list them because you shouldn't be worried about using them.

4. All complaints and reports should be submitted to the admins, either through a thread in the guides and moderation forum or through private messages should you wish discretion. Please furnish as much proof as possible, and do not harass Gakumerasara with such concerns.
By proof we mean screenshots (preferably containing the time and date, in-game and real life), logs, witnesses willing to tell us what they saw, etc. Although we may not be able to punish someone on that proof alone 100%, any information you send us helps to point us in the right direction and get one step closer to solving the problem. Also, this information may also save yourself if people accuse you of any wrong-doing in retaliation.

5. Using a trash, throw-away character for pk/stealing, or abusing some loophole/flaw in the game, is going to result in a ban, with the severity of the trash-character's actions being taken into account for the ban.

6. Do not link inappropriate things in FFO's channels. The game is PG/PG-13 as far as a rating would go. You're gone if you link, say, a porn site. This goes for the forums as well, including private forums.
--- Discussing quests over NSay will result in a mute; if it persists, it will result in a ban.

7. Report bugs and exploits, do not abuse them. If you stumble upon something in the game that appears abusive, overpowered, or otherwise buggy, report it. This should be done in the Bug Reports forum and done as soon as possible. Even if you aren't sure that it's an exploit in some way, report it: we would rather have several posted abuses and none turn out true, that no posted abuses even though people have found them out. Also report things that look out of whack, such as if a monster is giving tons of experience but is extremely easy. Trash thieves, outlaw suicide, and other uses of loopholes in the game fall under exploits/bug abuse. Finding a hole in the code isn't a greenlight to rip said hole wide open for your own fun and games.
Anyone caught abusing an exploit of the game will have at least a temporary ban. Attempts to bypass the ban or unproductive and rude comments about the ban in the forums will result in a more permanent ban.

8. If you are muted, kicked, or banned for violation of rules, continuing to be disruptive and cause problems on the forums, or in game by attempting to circumvent the ban, will only increase the duration of your punishment, and may result in a permanent ban from FFO.

9. Guard AI abuse is not allowed. This means you can not use non-outlaw players to block Guards from reaching an outlawed player so they are free from harm as they cause havoc. Breaking this rule will receive harsh punishment.

10. Blocking on the New Banian continent is not allowed, unless there is an alternate path.

11. Blatant key sharing is strictly prohibited. Offenders will be IP banned.

12. Attempting to trick or bait another player into breaking rules will also be punished.

13. Complete your homework before playing.

14. The administrative team of FFO and Terulia reserves the right to moderate anything should it be deemed exceptional, even if it is not something in the rules.

15. All admins must ask Cea before doing anything serious.

* Domain say is unfiltered, and those will be watched by the lords of said domains, who can deal with troublesome members themselves; same with psay. If you don't like how your domain's leaders control the channel, then you need to either talk to them, or leave the domain. This does not mean you are allowed to make personal attacks, or try to grief a fellow player. If you do not get along with someone, being in the same domain is in no way a good idea. It is a very BAD idea, and just gives more opportunity for the two+ of you to get into a rule-breaking situation.

If something you're doing doesn't seem like it was intended to be done, don't do it. Common sense will go a long way.

Notes:
Spam killing is less of an issue now due to the PvP Protection/Penalty System. However, admins will moderate as per rule 14.

Blocking corpses is no longer against the rules due to life's effect being canceled this way. Players should leave enough space for the deceased to click their corpse to grave and must refrain from blocking actual graves.

All of your characters should be put on one key. If you are found to be logging on an alt on another key while your first character is dead or still in the middle of something, there will be punishment. (depends on situation, of course)

All punishments will be decided based on the severity and nature of the crime.

Once FFO is reverted to it's 2010 version, there will be some modifications to the rules.
Since it is a version with bugs and problems that the majority of you are aware of, we will be much more strict with the rules and punishment for breaking rules will be much more severe.

Spam killing will once again be moderated. The old rules for this will be used for now until a better idea is thought of.
2) Spam-killing is NOT acceptable. Killing, lifing, killing, lifing, killing again does not count as the target is not forced to accept a life prompt. However, killing a non aggressive target (one who has not struck first) more than 3 times in the span of an hour will not be tolerated. If a player is not fighting back and you continue to keep up the killing the next hour (up to six kills in two hours), this will also count as spam-killing and will not be tolerated. Simply put, don't try to stick to the limit, PvP is a part of the game but absolutely ruining the game for someone in this manner is not acceptable. There are enough people in the game that your focus does not need to be on a select few.

To clarify, if you see a lot of PvP action going on between two sides, don't go standing nearby and let yourself become a victim. If you're afraid you might be targeted, openly state that you do not want to participate. If you have been fighting but wish to leave, don't stay in the area and if anyone sees you tell them you wish to leave and not fight back anymore.

A white wizard trying to Life his friends can still be targeted as it is still helping the enemy to some people. If you try to Life dead people take notice that you are putting yourself at risk of being killed for it and it counts as an aggressive act towards enemies.
Note: 3 kills is not a limit set in stone. It is a guideline.
Edit: To clarify, players that frequently target weaker players or players that do not wish to fight will not always be allowed to get away with three kills. On the other hand, these players that choose such a "villain" type of gameplay will not always be protected by a three kill limit.

Most importantly, there will be a few bugs "unfixed" that many are aware of. The admins know of at least 3 duping bugs and how they work, so don't even try any of them. The minimum punishment for being caught duping will be one month but will very likely be more severe. Any accomplices or people who are aware of abuse but fail to bring it to an admin's attention will also be punished.

If anyone witnesses a domain revolting and then being conquered again by someone in the same group or a domain with a large amount of negative gold in the treasury it should immediately be brought to the attention of an admin.

If any domain lord or chancellor sees any irregularities within domain information upon receiving control of a domain, it should immediately be brought to the attention of an admin. All admins reserve the right to "borrow" a domain from the lord to investigate such matters. If irregularities are found, the current lord and chancellor will be punished. If they are innocent it is their responsibility to notify an admin before it comes to this.

Any discussing of how to abuse a bug will also be punishable, with at least a very long mute. Even screenshot proof of "out of game conversations" will result in punishment depending on what the admins decide.

All reports and accusations of bug abuse must be sent to an admin privately. Ideally means through PMs, but through /tells in-game or other means available are allowed.

I must also reemphasize:
All complaints and reports should be submitted to the admins, either through a thread in the guides and moderation forum or through private messages should you wish discretion. Please furnish as much proof as possible, and do not harass Gakumerasara with such concerns.

This list will likely continue to be updated for the next few days.

Mining while AFK will no longer be acceptable. Likewise, any other activities while AFK that clearly yield results (resources, profs, experience, etc.) will also be punished. This includes "AFK training" using mantra and bots and other such methods.

Things such as idling for domain happiness and personal level cap will not count towards this rule, however.

If you think someone is breaking this rule, make sure you try to check if they are there before jumping straight to reporting.
