Is this even possible or do I need a bunch of high tier elemental armor? I'm trying to absorb dark at the moment and I got 2 shadow 3 shade and 1 dark armors. Do I need more armor or just higher tier element?

I'm fairly certain elemental gear was nerfed so you can no longer absorb melee damage, because it was a trick people like me used to solo Dragons back in 3.5.

However you *can* significantly reduce the damage you take. From your armor you'll need higher tier dark elements, and probably upgrade the pieces. I don't know what qualities you have them at but it does matter.

Ex. Once I put on a set of unholy armor, and took 2 damage from my own dark 2 spell. Once I upgraded each piece once, I absorbed 2 points of health.

You can absorb cure-type physical damage, it can be done if you have enough pieces and the right weapon (weak weapon). I don't know for sure if you can absorb any other element, but I wouldn't doubt it's possible.

It's not realistic though against mobs, as I'm sure it'd require the highest tier element on each piece of equipment with near-perfect quality, at least. I can't even guess if an anti-element spell would be enough at that point.

From what I've seen, you can absorb any elemental weapon damage if you have enough of the right elemental armor and you block the attack.

knights with perfect adamantine armors and steel sheetings with level 7 ice suffixes and like one level 7 light piece could totally solo a frost dragon clearly op nerf now

With enough cure armor I absorb poison and it will regen me too. Even the poison traps in the cube would be absorbed and give me regen.
