KOTOR Installation

Okay so I wanted to install and play Knights of the Old Republic (first one) and last time I tried on my computer it didn't work. This time I try my laptop since it's like way better and I get the game installed and everything. When I click Play and let the game go, the picture of the Ebon Hawk shows up and then... it closes itself.

I check the recommended settings and I meet everyone of them except one, which is counted as acceptable anyways. I went to the configuration and made it easier to run, but the same result. Looking online I notice TONS of tons of topics about computer compatibility issues and people copy-pasting diagnostics and sending their information to sites that specialize in this, etc. Because it's my life philosophy to skip crap when possible I'm asking here:

Any of you familiar with problems running KOTOR and anyone have any solutions that helped them out? Thanks.

Right-click the EXE, and click properties. Try messing with the Compatibility settings from there, see if that works.
