Interesting. As long as there is a cap this time. I remember the one server there was no cap and it got a lil out of hand. There's a reason why just about every and all RPG's have some type of cap. Balancing issues no doubt.

So what if I that there is never ever another p-wipe ever again until Terulia? Is that more appealing?

It would probably get appealing for everyone in the short run, but really only the hardcore FFOers will benefit out of that because they'll be the ones with the time on their hands to cap every one of their alts. Since leveling is stupid easy nowadays, though, it could be interesting to see domain warfare with everyone being higher levels forever.

All right.

First of all, one of the largest driving forces for wanting an organized system of pwiping for the game is the fact that there are pwipes to begin with, correct? You said so yourself,

If FFO was a perfect gameworld it could withstand a stable community for years and years on a single un-pwiped server.

Well, it's not. FFO is horribly balanced and has a ton of conceptual issues with it; conceptual issues which specifically and completely prevent any semblance of balancing. No matter how things have been changed, server after server there has always been something in the game that is horribly broken. Red Wizards are possibly the longest-running offenders of this.

In my opinion, the largest issue of it is the ridiculously fast paced combat system. Large scale battles almost exclusively go one way: Whoever blows their gigantic magical load first wins (or, in terms of Knights, whoever gets in for a Rapid Strike or hits a crit on a Charge first). Masters used to fit into this diaphragm back when they shat out large numbers of damage immediately, but have since been nerfed or whatever.

Which really, the above combat system isn't bad... it's just that the rest of the game is built around the idea of slower, more tactical and strategical play to last over longer expanses. The game is set up to include long-lasting dynasties, evolving alliances, and constantly improving your character. In other words, it's a PvP-driven game where PvP lasts about 1% of the gameplay.

This disparity ends up being why a large portion of pwipes happen. While Terulia is departing away from fast-based PvP, if you take a look at the updates, FFO has evolved towards the fast-based PvP, since that's the defining factor of FFO.

Fast-based PvP is better built around skirmishes, and especially resetting battlefields back to scratch. Think League of Legends, or hell, any online FPS game. In Tom Clancy's Modern Warfare 6: Stand Alone Complex in the Rainbow Shell, the entirety of online play is based around skirmishes. And similar to FFO, large leads in TCMW6:STCiRS actually rewards parties in the lead - a 25 killing spree or whatever leads to an instant game end nuke.

If you want to suggest that we actually have a timed schedule for pwipes, then there would be a few changes to it and it definitely shouldn't be as long as six months. FFO starts hitting problems in its pwipe usually by the end of the first month if not sooner. It's definitely not something to be done with FFO as-is, but it would definitely be something that could be more effective on FFO given its direction and overall value.

I actually kind of support this idea, then. It's not necessary on Terulia since Terulia will be more handily balanced so that an economy doesn't go into complete disrepair once the global level cap reaches Level 25.

With a leaderboard and something like that, FFO might actually benefit from more regular pwipes than not.

(The question is if FFO is worth that sort of effort.)

I personally dont get the ponies. Originally i remember all icons needed to be FF based. In a RP setting i see it as a odd out of place thing. Maybe make a my little pony game to get out of your system??

I dont like the siege timer i remember days of leaving laptop on full volume and sleeping next to it pathetic as it sounds things you need to do to keep a domain. Role playing 2 hours i can only kill your guards seems odd. On the other hand i always thought guards, buildings should be much much more tougher resistant to tier3 lol.

New allowance system (new to me) it seems faster to level prof which is cool, I think the idea is great its something similar to what we thought for our own rpg world. I guess the only thing that i dont like is the fact that alot of skills/abilities come from non related skills/abilities. The allowance system also makes you act like a fool in a party. Overall i like it though.

P wipes scheduled might help new players novices to understand them more and not rage quit about them.

Why not have the ponies be changed to mini summons like chocobo mindflayer and such..
I could icon them if you wanted

Summons would be nice, but wouldn't that add something like a summoner class or just using an item that summons them; just like the wolves?

I can imagine PVP wars going on with ponies being summoned to brawl. :P

Also this would probably require a quest?

Im sure it wouldn't be to hard to change ponies into Chocobos. It would make playing FFO more imersive rather than seeing a pony who has no relevancy to the Final Fantasy Series. The main problem is not the ponies themselves but what they represent. Chocobos would be fully accepted into the FFO Lore.

----------------------------------------------------------
Shane is right that FFO may revolve around PvP but while people are online they do more of the other things. PvE, Politics, exploring, domain building and governing.

My view on balancing is now different than how it used to be in the past. I am not saying to not try to not balance the game anymore or tweak/nerf it because at the end of the day it will happen and needs to be done to a certain extent.

I think that the problem lies in what how balance is perceived. During my absence on FFO I've been playing DCUO. It's a game that has fast paced action and relies more on player skill then actual powers (Not including certain top tiered players). Their view on classes and balancing goes like this.

Controller > Tank > Healer

In a RPG terms.

Wizard > Fighter > Healer

Or in FFO PvP.

BW > RW > WW > Fighter > Master > Ninja.

Do you see the problem with FFO's model? There are 6 classes that must be balanced/ have a counter class to them. Classes like RW have spells from both BW and WW that ruins this balance. Sure they can't have the best spells of the other Wizards but just having a healing spell alone changes the tone of certain battles. Yet it's also true that they don't have spells like Scry and Life which are what "make" the other classes, oh I almost forgot their unique elements such as Light and Dark. So nevermind.

This is the most balanced version of FFO that has ever came out. Sure it's not perfect but Shane you say that PvP resorts to just who can get the first Charge or RS sure you may be right. That's why FFO has domains and parties.

Melee classes have a reason to be played. Ninja has it covered already with unique PvP skills such as mug, flitch, HWGM, DISGUISE! Masters have great PvE skills such as chakra and mantra. And knight they just have the best damage skillset of the mellers with RS and Charge. Also with the right gear for a knight and Anti-Element spells from a WW they are almost unbeatable.

Once you fight someone who has a similar skill level and gear then you realize your climbing a uphill battle when it's 1 vs 1 against a counter class. That's the point.

When you place more people into the mix and have 2vs2+ and so on and so forth balancing issues are even harder to reach. So teamwork is the most important thing in FFO. You can be the strongest character in the FFO universe but you'll still lose if the right team challenges you.

-------------------------------------------------------

I've been looking at other game economies and how they are run and what makes them tick. I never played Eve Online but they have something that is interesting that I'd like to share. They have 3 Main sections. High Sec (security), Low Sec, and Null Sec.

FFO Terms New Banian, Argo, Vorgardia-Irendi.

The best risk/rewards come from being in Vorgardia/Irendi. That is the reason people leave the island. I personally believe that the guards in New Banian be captains all the time. Argo can have lower security. Possibly a cap of level 4 guards even a few archer guards. Then Vorg/Iren none.

Anyway, in my opinion, I would only consider this after Shane's work on making FFO visible again is either continued or picked up by LethaLetha.
My reason for this is that there currently is not enough players for this system to be worth it.

Hopefully the cap of 55 will be the best fit for FFO. It could be that we have not found out the correct cap to use. No cap was a good experiment yet lead to that servers ultimate demise.

I think we could last longer between p-wipes by making everything lvl 20+ x2 the exp needed making everything lvl 30+ x3 exp, and 40+x4 and so on its way to easy to level shit these days and this would slow ppl down also make the plc slower it seems to go way to fast so what if ppl have to wait you are just playing to much... I think a level cap at 70 or 99 would be quite interesting

The thing is, that's been tried. The main issue that arises is that it's just stale until it reaches cap or near cap. People express dislike that they must wait months to participate in some of the main parts of the game.
