Are you happy with FFO?

Hey guys, I haven't been around in a while. Looking at some recent posts, I thought I'd bring this up.

No one seems to be happy with Locke. For whatever reason, Gaku doesn't care that no one is happy with Locke. Seems that Locke is ruining the game experience for you. So, here's a little overview of what you can do about it.

If you're really unhappy with Locke and how FFO is right now, stop playing. I'm not calling for a boycott, but if you keep playing FFO it's going to stay the same.

If you don't stop playing FFO, Locke's behavior is tolerable enough for you to continue playing. Nothing will change. It doesn't have to. You're still playing.

For the most part. Nobody really does play anymore. Only people actually partying and playing these days are the newbies from what I've seen.

At the exact moment I'm making this post, there's 25 players on, 17 of which are newbies, and the only parties formed are all newbies.

Who are oblivious to the conflicts going on between Locke and everyone else.

It's going to stay the same whether all the older players stay or go. It doesn't really matter.

The majority of the newbies playing are probably bored oldbies playing new chars and or playing secretly like douchers.

I figured it was pretty well-known that newbies don't leave because they're usually content with the first island and/or just don't care to play the game any further. Otherwise there would be plenty of newbies to band up and take on the power players (which usually are small groups.)

A lot of newbies complain about players killing them so it scares them into not wanting to leave the island and be an open target. Also, they're afraid of those citizens. Don't really see what we could do about that, though, that wouldn't drastically alter the game.

FFO should have had some sort of protection for those people that are just fresh off Newbie Isle if there are so many newbies afraid to. It's too late now, but just some speculation.

With how easy it is to grief and ruin newer players' characters, FFO's PvP system has been broken for so long. Though, a long time ago, this was acceptable. When new players would come and complain about being killed, everyone would say "Shut up and deal with it" and usually resulted in it happeningg more. Now that it is unacceptable (or at least not desirable), the system should have been changed to accommodate such a drastic change in intentions for the game. Sure, spam killing is against the rules and helps somewhat, but newer players don't realize how easily one death worth of experience can be regained. So they try to avoid any confrontation. Which, in my opinion, they might as well not even play if they don't want to PvP.

Honestly though, there's only a few choice people we killed repeatedly. Those we just really didn't like whatsoever were targeted for example. People like Tyrael and his brother come into mind firstly. I still don't understand why he didn't leave the domain when we were killing him though (lol).

I think we should have done it differently with the whole situation with the bans, but that's a moot point now. To be honest if so many people feared leaving Newbie Island, I would have stepped in and cleared things up for them. I would have been all for hosting a huge "Welcome to Argo" party and invited them all to join Giant's Helm. It may sound silly but we're human and I don't think any of us wanted to make other people suffer that we weren't even aware of. It does make me regret having that elitist "Say one thing wrong, you're dead" attitude, but it doesn't matter now. I just didn't want people to think we were some big bad guys that are going to kill them and their family.

(all of dis is for discussion, not debate or anything, just some chill talk y'all)

Pretty much everyone who randomly PKed for the sake of PKing. People who abused mechanics to make others miserable. People who spent more time complaining about getting banned instead of admitting to the fact that they were in the wrong. People who exploited loopholes in the rules and bitched and whined and moaned about rule 14...

Basically people who couldn't play the game honestly and have fun, but had to ruin it for everyone else.

I don't get it. When I left the island I got randomly PK'ed and jumped with broken mechanics before I even knew how to play the game properly. People didn't complain and ban the guys that did it, they sang their praises for it.

I got hunted down in NB by Gene with 15k hp before, Watabou killed me after my first 5 steps into Argo, Ethril and a ninja killed me with just zerk and a bear bow, Iwamori killed my entire party when we were trying to train in Irendi, Black and his buddies abused armlock, zerk, and cure to try and make all my gear disintegrate.

Not ONE of those people were banned for attacking me though. I dealt with it just fine. Nobody is spam killing newbies like I keep hearing claims. Sure people have PK'ed new-ish players but who cares? If they quit cause of it we don't need their element in this game as it is. Sure Cea and his friends hunted down and attacked Dean and his buddies but in case anyone forgot, this is FFO with an open PVP system. When you have an enemy your SUPPOSED to hunt them down and kill them, I'm pretty sure Gaku made posts on the old forums saying something along the lines of "if you hate this guy so much, get a group of friends and kill him" when people complained about Black.

Why are these newbies getting such special treatment when it's easier than ever to kill a capped player?

The problem is, Locke and Gaku don't want the game to be ran like that anymore. But working to fix that problem on the coding side, would probably take too much time that isn't worth fixing a game that should have been taken down months ago.

That's the other thing I don't get. Why make an open end, pvp/domain warfare based game then decide that you don't want people being PKed? It's why the game is so stale. The direction it feels like we're going is forcing everyone to stop treating enemies as such which is gonna lead to boredom because all we're doing is training, getting capped, and then what? Getting a character powerful for what purpose? To brag about it?

The cap is only 35 and exp gains are doubled vs 3.5. Any failure can hit level 35 with good profs. Not every person can pvp well, and with pvp as balanced as its ever been all I wanna do is test myself against other players, especially when people form groups to go against each other.

Instead of this lame shit where a person dies, then stays in the domain the rest of the day and complains about how I'm a jerk or a parasite to the game.

The thing is the newbies that complain about being killed wont stick around. The ones that do stay long enough to leave the island prolly only stay because they think their whinning will get them somewhere. It often times results in them being pk'd by more experienced players cuz they are annoying. This is probably why a certain group of players got banned. After the years of ffo being up we have a terrible admin in power that thinks helping these people by radical means is gonna help. Ffo is has gone down the toilet because of small temporary fixes, bad decisions, and never actually taking the time to fix the problem correctly. No one is going to want to play once they see that you can follow the rules and still get punished, no one is going to want to play a stale game. Either stop punishing the community or fix the game. Neither is likely, so just take it down.

Problem is Desh, just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Like when I was giving Niv a Sage Ring a while ago, I could've very well and very easily put my near-empty inventory to use, stolen a bunch of high-tier items from people I didn't like, deleted my character and by extension erase them, and the entire community would've wanted my head.

And the instant someone demands that I get banned, I'd just say "It's not against the rules", and the cycle of abuse continues because I got away with something that erased several hours work in the blink of an eye, regardless of the protections in place, and everyone else starts doing shit like that. Also, Niv would've gotten flack as well for not attacking me to prevent the theft of the items, or actually letting me into the storage just so he could add to his ring collection.

Even though they were in the wrong for killing you (and being right twats in the process), you can't exactly make a rule that says "Don't kill for no reason", cause there are a thousand reasons in FFO to kill someone, and most of them difficult to prove. The only real thing Locke can do is find out who is deliberately making an active attempt to ruin the game, and ban them for it.

None of that even matters, lmao. It's your own damn fault if you sit there and let someone steal from you. If it's not against the rules and isn't destroying the community, no one cares. I fail to see how robbing one person of high-tier gear would suddenly make everyone want to do it. (we've been doing it ever since FFO started, pillaging and stealing people's hard work is what the game is all about. keep your shit engraved.)

I honestly think that there is no use explaining why ffo is how it is now. Cause whatever the reason, its preety obvious that it aint going to turn back into what it used to be. Whatever is done to try and "fix" the community wont work, the game is basically done for and we might as well all wait for terulia and let newbies just play the game. I mean lets be honest, who really cares about newbies? I mean I think its preety fair to say that the only people who care about newer players playing the game is gaku and locke thats it. And the newer players who aren't afraid of whatever reaps around off newbie island are obviously the ones who are cool enough to stick with the game and not be newbies anymore. Either way, no use trying to fix the problem cause in my opinion there aren't any solutions other then adding a reason for older players to play the game again.
