Maybe it's not on purpose but pretty much every update since the pwipe has done nothing but help melee become the main thing. Everyone has a BB if they don't have a BB they have a thief if they don't have a thief they have a fighter

the new proffing system of usage may be a step forward for fair play. but is it really worth it for FFO/Terulia?

why make the game more annoying than it has to be.. not many people play the game as it is. it's getting a little too complex imo.

i think getting rid of dumping experience into profs is kind of stupid. you should be able to log in, do some training and get a good quantifiable result (experience to dump).

when terulia is released, imo the game should be tailored so that you can play for a short amount of time and accomplish a lot. grinding in a laggy 8 bit game with 20 masochistic oldbies isn't a widespread idea of fun.

and consciously spamming skills to get experience efficiently is just soul draining

i have one char and its not melee at all so not everyone quit mages cuz melee's got easier i like putting work into my char it makes me feel like i earned my ****.Plus its not that hard to prof a rw imo i get profs decently easy and unarmed wont be godly because spells will still trump it cuz a good red wizard will cure for more than you hit

didnt mean PKing at all. i meant it's painful to put so much time grinding (made worse in many ways by removing experience dumping) in a laggy 8 bit game with a tiny population. and the people still playing are largely the ones who love to suffer grinding over and over again so they don't mind.

i think a lot of people will agree with this when i say FFO is the most fun with a large population (40-50+). i think terulia for terulia to be a good success it should be easier to jump into and progress than post 3.5 ffo has ever been.

maybe the skill usage to gain profs system will eventually be worked out to be good. but the way i see it is that skill spamming is tedious. and the last thing that will retain players is a tedious as **** 8 bit game with 15 players online. any game i can think of where an action dictates your skill gain, players will want to be more efficient and will love to use programs to get the most out of their play time. it can feel wrong not to when it's available.

open ffo is a good way to test new systems that will have a place in terulia. so there is big value in testing all this stuff out now. the new prof system is an innovative solution to away party follow leeching but it needs to be perfected or roll backed. in a way i feel if the people in the training party want to let someones character auto leech then it's up to them. don't know how gaku feels about that though

dropping excess equipment/gold for logging out may be a bit too tedious too but i know gaku has said before that he didn't like the way of relogging after a training trip and using out of game methods for stuff like that.

Personally I think a better solution to dropping all that stuff upon logout is the game saving where you were when you logged out so when you log back in you're (rather hilariously) in the same exact spot as you were when you logged out.

cea's actually right, the mage thing is ridiculous. you'll have people who will "stand by" the changes and claim it's fine no matter how bad it is but i'm usually one of the most open people to things like this and this right here is BAD

at profs ~25 cure takes like half an hour of playing constantly casting it to go up one prof. that's a lot of ethers too

at profs ~8 spells like anti-water that are /boring as hell/ to just cast over and over again fizzling on the same person just to prof them take like 10 minutes of constantly casting like that to go up a single prof, I mean that's how it was BEFORE the new update, during this new one i'm scared to even try to prof them because they took like 200 prof allowance per cast and you have no way of knowing now when you have the prof allowance to actually get experience for it.

spells like light 2 (and surely other tier 2s and higher spells) take SO long to prof and are SO inconvenient to prof beyond just the time it takes, you just don't even wanna try because you're just gonna be being useless/hitting party members/wasting assloads of mana and thirst just to get a spell up levels that you won't even really use much just so you can unlock more stuff (think of how many hundreds of thousands of times you'll have to cast it to earn light 3 which isn't even a good spell anymore anyway)

really you start thinking of how many *hundreds, if not thousands of hours* you'd need to pour into a character, particularly a mage, to make them decent, just DECENT, on ONE HOSTING of an 8-bit mmorpg full mostly of weird kids these days anyway that'll almost definitely be pwiped again at some point
and you start to think, 'nah'

to be frank i think if you're going to retool the game this much anyway, it should be retooled to be able to be enjoyed with much less ridiculous amounts of playtime to have to be poured into it. it's just a little 8-bit free mmo thing, you earn nothing by making people play it more -- profs should just plain be easier, i don't care what 'dean the guy who just plays a master and away trains then tells mages how easy it is for them to prof' says

and also aside from that partying needs to feel like it's at all worth it again, partying was fun :<

You guys think I ***** and complain nonstop for my own ****ing good. All I'm doing is passing on how others feel (and myself, of course). But literally half a dozen people come to me regularly saying "Cea this is how we feel can you post about it" or "Cea here's this idea I have can you post about it"

It's not just me *****ing about living in the old days like you guys like to fall back on. People are quitting. As Sarm said to me the other day, there is no longer a psychological benefit to playing the game, with experience removed. He brought up how people play to see progress in the game. And now that you can't see experience you're earning and you can't check back on your profs and you just have to guess and hope, no one wants to play at all any more.

And you guys (Dean) say "well why not stop *****ing and post suggestions" I have posted suggestions. Others have posted suggestions.

Also, I love Elias's point of "it's a free mmo that's gonna pwipe some day"
Why should it take 1,000 casts of a spell to earn a level later? Or even several HUNDRED right now at prof 20-30? People don't have ages to play. Most of us are working adults and the others are just kids. We all play from time to time to enjoy ourselves. Not bust our asses off for one prof a day that we'll just lose later when we accidentally misclick a guard in town.

So yeah, just sayin'.
