Another reason is this: if people who have a monopoly on the game are so inclined, they can prevent just about anyone from training anywhere reasonable.

If you're at FrDragons, it goes without saying you'll be packing Ice and Light gear, meaning some Blackwizard with tier-3 Fire spells will decimate your party in a few shots. While you're being raped by FrDragons spamming Ice and Light as well as an ungodly physical attack at that.

When EE's were all the rage, A single earth spell would heal me no problem, and if I had another earth ring, earth-based physical attacks would probably heal me, but if someone smacked me with a Wind spell to be a doche, game over.

Level scaling stamps this down, and keeps the game fair. I'm not a fan of being unable to solo, since I genuinely prefer soloing, but I'm also not a fan of some shitbrick declaring somewhere -his- training spot.

Yea i'm a few days late but yea Aeris or w/e,
um Level scaling does -NOT- apply to monsters stronger than the players, if players are level 35 and the dragons are say level 45. if the players are level 15, the dragons are still level 45....i'd know because we scanned dark dragons early on this hosting. I've yet to see an effective party destroy dragons like they have in the past this hosting...
I myself took a party of 6 meleers 2 wms, and 1 rw... from what we experienced magic did 5-10 to it so i highly doubt a bw would be able to devistate dragons. The only thing that managed to damage the dragons were the meleers Elemental weapons and they only did 2x-3x as much damage? 20-30 anyways level scaling does not apply to godly monsters from what i know.(Level Scaling does not scale monsters down)

I think he meant that the BW would be able to destroy the party easily since they're all wearing ice gear.

I've done it to one of exo's frost dragon parties before.

What gives more exp and is easier to kill than a frost dragon?

A party of four players running around wearing ice gear that has been killing frost dragons all day.

if only you could spawn 2 or 3 of those parties every few steps and power train like that.

You start on NI, and there is no level scaling. You work your way up, find weak monsters and move on to find stronger monsters in stronger areas. Newbies are a plenty, so partying isn't hard. Then he hits 'real' FFO, and suddenly parties are hard to find. Maybe people are on another continent that he can't get to, or don't want to drag around someone they don't know. Or nobody is on. So young Bob has to waste the little time he has to play the game by doing nothing, since soloing is impossible for him off of Newbie Island. The game is already set against the solo player, adding level scaling just means that this feeling of not being able to play because nobody is on never goes away. You never get strong enough to survive for yourself for more then a quick run unless you abuse multi tile monster choke points or are one of maybe 2 classes with the right equips.

My name isn't Bob, why'd you say Bob instead of Snow/Snowman/SnowmanXIV?

Sounds like me if you take out the abuse part and add "Bob starts playing FFO less and less then moves to other games, occasionally logging on to FFO to talk for a few minutes."

Sorry I didn't read this whole thread.

But I just read, "level scaling was put in so there isn't one 'best place' to train"

Just want to say level scaling didn't stop the progression in the game (NI, near GsH, Argo, Mid Vorg / Desert, Irendi, Vorg Plains, Ruins).

We all still go to "the best places".

Simple fact.

Level Scaling just made doing that more annoying.

Yeah level scaling didn't 'balance the areas' or make everything equal or anything like that at all really...

That's because people couldn't handle 100% level scaling.
So now there is, once again, a "best" place to train.

When we had 100% level scaling it was still the same. If I recall right, I don't remember when that was. As long as I've played, however, Irendi has still been the best, the vorgardian plains second, desert third, etc.

Its never changed as long as I played. Maybe it was different when I wasn't playing, but I don't know.

Yeah even with 100% we still did the same thing bro...

Now it's just slightly easier on us so we don't have to party with THE BEST OF THE BEST for a good party, so that's nice...

I think it's because the high resistance of monsters in vorg, and heavy damage to armor doesn't match the exp output of the monsters in Vorg. However in Irendi you can kill groups of monsters a lot easier (a lot of the time multiple monsters at once) and they deal a lot less damage to armor. Couple that with faster kill rate and your armor hardly touched.

Tada: "let's train in Irendi, vorg plains suck".

Gaku, we handled the 100% scaling just fine.

In parties.

Hell, I handled it just fine solo, till I discovered those frost wolves werent SUPPOSED to be giving me 3k a a kill, and were fixed.

Then it just sucked.

I'm bigger on soloing than Iwa is. Last hosting I played majorly, ask baram or iwa or even stan, it was constantly "LP get to the gates faggot we have have party" "no fuck you im solo".

These were the GOOD players that I LIKE A WHOLE LOT AND WOULD GIVE A REACHAROUND TO ANY ONE OF, and I didn't often party with them.

I just prefer solo play a majority of the time, and I know I'm not alone.

You want the game to be party focused, fine and good. Hey, it's a small online game, and a rather unforgiving one, parties are kinda sparse. Not a problem, we just make it viable to solo, and do the solo preferred players a favor while we're at it.

Wait a second it's not viable to solo outside of Newbie Island.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF ELYK FFFFFFFFFFF GAME SUX.

etc.

You took several direct suggestions of mine to reduce the level scaling, and it's still for the most part overwhelming to anyone that isnt "hi knight or master with dual epic tonfa/epic whip, ninja with full stealth, VORGARDIA/IRENDI DAY ONLY OK". Monster stats just scale way too impractically high, especially alongside the stat gains of players, pitiful hp gains being the most notable here.

Remove the level scaling completely, or way downgrade monster stat gains, specially their hp. Debuff gold and drop scaling to compensate if you really feel it's necessary, which, for the sake of readding some of the fun that's been syphoned off (fun here being a sense of growing in power, its the fucking centerpiece of any RPG, PvP based or no), it really wouldn't be.

Make it happen please, Lord Gaku.

I was there for that, LP. Us wanting to leave and you'd say "nah I'll solo"

You'd only party when it was like super small like me Sinsie and you.....

or that was one more version ago... haha :)

Yeah, you were there for that. Those mega parties always ended up with me making like a million xp at the least too, but I only joined like maybe 4 of them if even.

Dear Gaku, random Bob cannot train because level scaling makes it too hard and he has no friends to party with.

Unless he upped it again while I wasn't looking, you guys are whiners. When he reduced it when I made this topic, I found the change to be near perfect. Parties were still pretty important, but I could actually solo in Wildman caves, and my gear isn't all that awesome. I'm a knight that doesn't use tonfas, or super heavy armor. More a mixture of Light and Heavy, I heal on my own and I had a fine time of it. Did I need a party to go past the third floor in the ruins? Yes. Did I die now and again in the EE cave, sure it happened. Would I set foot on Irendi without a RW/WW, not gonna happen. There is a difference between 'being able to viably solo' and wanting the game handed to you on a platter.

Unless something I am not aware of was changed after the change this topic caused the first time, people are whining too much.

It doesn't help that you add stupid fucking monsters to different areas of the game, making them a huge pain in the ass to train now. Darkies in Irendi just makes everything hell to be honest. They do like 200+ melee damage to me (wearing full heavy mind you), which is just insane. Not to mention they explode without warning..

Honestly, it's like Gaku doesn't even give a flying fuck anymore.

STOP RUINING FFO
